Omicron: What does this mean for you and your business? Some tips and advice

It goes without saying that Covid-19 has impacted us all, both as individuals and businesses, in it’s own way. With life slowly but steadily getting more back to normal then suddenly being hit with the news of Omicron rapidly spreading we understand this can be a concerning yet unsettling time. As a family-run business we understand you want to do everything you can to keep the consistency and reassurance there taking on as least stress and concern as you can. But, what can you do? Here’s some tips that many of our clients have found to be useful, ‘The 6 C’s’ –
- Conversation
Keeping that line of communication open is key. Keep your staff in the loop of what measures you are taking and letting them know you are actively aware of the concerns they may have. Reassure them and get things in place. Perhaps ask for feedback, suggestions. After all your staff are there everyday and they are highly likely to have some great ideas too.
2. Consumables
Ensure you an abundant supply of those items which are allowing you and your team to feel safe and protected. An ample stock of hand sanitiser across various areas is reassuring. An available supply of disposable face masks in immediate entrance areas, meeting rooms and common areas is a great idea for those who may wish to wear one. Perhaps providing antibacterial biodegradable wipes in meeting rooms and highly used sociable areas to encourage freshen ups through the day or arrange a Daytime Janitor to refresh this throughout.
3. Cleaning Schedule
Speak to your Cleaning Operative or your Contract Cleaning Company to see if your cleaning schedule needs to be updated. We regularly review our site specific cleaning schedules for all of our sites dependent on latest government guidelines or general business changes or different working patterns or footfall increases / decreases etc. Do your touch points need sanitising more regularly? Could your toilet areas and kitchenette areas be more intensely cleaned?
Also reverting back to our first tip (‘Conversation’) – sharing this information with your staff is really useful and again, reassuring. Understandably there may be many people who are hesitant about being in the workplace when working from home is not possible so showing your support is really worthwhile.
4. Clear Identity
Throughout our experience of working within the Commercial Cleaning Industry, particularly in recent years we are seeing many of our clients look to have a Daytime Janitor. This allows areas to be cleaned more often across the 24 period. It is also reassuring for your team and also pleasing to see high use & high risk areas refreshed during the day. If this is something you have in place, or may look to, make sure those staff members are clearly recognisable by wearing branded uniform. This really emphasises that cleanliness and safety is top of your agenda.
5. Consistency
Make sure this is consistently maintained and those implementing these measures are being positive ‘role models’ on this. Be sure to make a point of encouraging your management and team to reapply hand sanitiser, to wear a mask if they feel necessary, to use anti-bacterial wipes or give constructive suggestions / feedback for improvement.
6. Cleaning Contractor
Perhaps this may feel slightly overwhelming or you would like some advice or guidance. This is what we specialise in, making sure our clients walk in to work everyday with peace of mind knowing their workplace is clean and safe.
